Billboard (Black Rectangle), 2010

intervention

wood, steel

The installation consists of a billboard built into the facade of the house where the artist was doing a residence. The billboard was installed backwards, with the back to the street and the front facing the house. The installation obstructed the windows of the house and invaded the neighbor’s abandoned lot. The work proposes an ambiguous form that, on the one hand, institutes a visual and aesthetic experience due to it’s unsuspected composition, and on the other hand, a concrete obstruction of gaze between private and public spaces.
